Shocked to receive a call from Chris Rock, asking her out on a date, Jada explained how it came about. Every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce, she said, And this particular summer, Chris [Rock], he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and he was like, I love to take you out. Jada wanted to clearly know what it’s about. So, Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce? I was like, No. Chris, those are just rumors, Pinket Smith said. He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.

Even though the Smiths have not legally divorced, Jada revealed that they have been living completely separate lives since 2016. According to her, they had not previously gone public with their separation because they were not “ready yet.

Will slaps him after Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith being bald. He took offense at the joke as Jada was suffering from alopecia, which had caused her hair loss.
Explaining this heated exchange Jada said that she believed there had been a misunderstanding. Jada says, a misunderstanding between Chris and I as far as the 2016 Oscars. Jada and Rock have since spoken and apologized to each other after the 2016 incident, she said.
