Baekhyun is a 30-year-old South Korean singer who has been in the Korean Entertainment industry for 11 years. He couldn’t hold a fan meeting before leaving for the military, but he conveyed the message through his Instagram live. Fans were heartbroken by the announcement of his enlistment.
Baekhyun served in the Military as required for 21 months from May 6, 2021, to February 5, 2023.

A press conference was not held to welcome the singer after the military. However, Baekhyun shared a heartfelt video on the EXO official YouTube Channel on the 17th of January, 2023, to let the fans know about his return from the military.
“Dear, EXO-L. Thank you for not forgetting me. While I was serving in the military, I was watching what EXO-L was doing. You’ve been missing me, thinking back to when I was with you guys and handling everything well,” the singer shared a few weeks before his discharge.
Baekhyun expects to return soon with EXO and give the fans the taste of a new Album within the year.

Why should all men in South Korea serve in the Military?
Conscription, under the Constitution of South Korea, states that it is mandatory for all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 years to serve in the Military. The duration of the service differs according to the military branch they serve. Usually, Active soldiers serve for a period of 18 months, Navy soldiers for 20 months, and Air force soldiers for 21 months.
Male citizens between the above age range go through an ‘Impairment and Disability evaluation’ before enlisting in the “first citizen service” mandate.
The singer also had to serve as required despite having some breakthrough moments as an artist in the entertainment industry.
