Joo Won is a 35-year-old South Korean actor who has been in the Korean Entertainment industry for 13 years. He conveyed the message of his leaving for the military in a special event, ‘See You Again! After he returned from the Military, he announced his appearance on television in the SBS science fiction romance K-drama series “Alice”. Why should all men in South Korea serve in the Military?
Conscription, under the Constitution of South Korea, states that it is mandatory for all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 years to serve in the Military. The duration of the service differs according to the military branch they serve. Usually, Active soldiers serve for a period of 18 months, Navy soldiers for 20 months, and Air force soldiers for 21 months.
Male citizens between the above age range go through an ‘Impairment and Disability evaluation’ before enlisting in the “first citizen service” mandate.
