“Death To America” Chants Rise In NYC | City Unrest and US Flag On Fire!
Palestinian activists in New York City sparked controversy when they burned the American flag and chanted ‘Death to America’ in the vicinity of NYPD officers. Also, they displayed association with terrorist organizations, such as a woman carrying a Hezbollah flag. Followingly Protesters blocked major bridges in New York and San Francisco like the Brooklyn Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, and roads leading to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
Police arrested some protesters in Philadelphia after they took over the intersection of Market Street and Schuylkill Avenue in Center City. Let’s look closely into the incident.
Burning The USA Flag
Protests against Israel have flared up again after Iran attacked Israel with planes on Saturday. This attack is part of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian group. Iran supports Hamas, along with Hezbollah and the Houthis from Yemen, who are also seen as allies of Iran.
People were shocked to see video footage when someone burned the American flag during a protest outside the New York Stock Exchange. The police officer nearby rushed to put out the flames, but another protestor shouted ‘Death to America’ without consequences.
Unfortunately even burning American flags, disrespectful to some, is protected as free speech by the First Amendment according to a 1989 US Supreme Court ruling in Texas v. Johnson.
Protesters Wave Hezbollah Banner
Hezbollah is a Shiite Muslim political party and militant group based in Lebanon, considered a terrorist group in the USA. Also, the group is accused of behind the 1983 suicide bombing of American military barracks in Beirut that killed 241 service members, mostly Marines.
During the protest activists were seen displaying Hezbollah flags, chanting “death to America,” and burning US flags. Conservative activist Laura Loomer confronted them, denouncing the terrorist group. Despite facing insults, Loomer stood her ground, labeling Hezbollah as terrorists responsible for past atrocities.
Protesters Blocked The Bridges
On Monday afternoon, a bunch of people in New York marched on the Brooklyn Bridge, against Israel. The police arrested lots of them because they were blocking the road against federal law. It started with about 150 people but more joined in. The traffic stopped around 5 pm, back to normal conditions.
They picked Monday because it was tax day and called it the ‘A15’ protest nationwide. They want to support Palestine and stop the US from giving money and weapons to Israel. Similar protests happened in Philadelphia and Oakland too.
Many drivers were upset about the situation and travelers had to walk to the airport until the traffic settled.
