A popular UFO-tracking app has recorded thousands of mysterious underwater objects near U.S. coastlines, prompting warnings from former Navy officials about potential threats to national security. The data comes from Enigma, a platform describing itself as the world’s largest searchable database for UFO and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) sightings.
Since its launch in late 2022, Enigma has collected reports of over 30,000 sightings globally. However, a growing number of these sightings appear to involve Unidentified Submersible Objects, or USOs – strange objects reportedly seen diving into or emerging from the ocean without making a splash.
Thousands of Reports Near U.S. Waters
According to Marine Technology News, Enigma has logged more than 9,000 mysterious sightings within 10 miles of U.S. coastlines or major bodies of water. Around 500 of those were within 5 miles, and more than 150 involved objects hovering above or plunging into the sea. California led the nation with 389 reports, followed by Florida with 306.
One particularly strange report includes cell phone footage of glowing green lights moving under the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Enigma’s public map shows clusters of orange dots marking the sightings up and down both coasts, forming a haunting outline along the nation’s waterways.
Navy Officials Sound the Alarm
Retired Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, a former U.S. Navy oceanographer, has voiced strong concerns about these underwater anomalies. In a March 2024 report for the Sol Foundation, Gallaudet warned that objects capable of moving seamlessly between air and water “could have world-changing implications.”
“The fact that unidentified objects with unexplainable characteristics are entering U.S. water space and the DOD is not raising a giant red flag is a sign that the government is not sharing all it knows,” Gallaudet wrote. He added that such phenomena “jeopardize U.S. maritime security, which is already weakened by our relative ignorance about the global ocean.”
Echoes of the USS Omaha Incident
Concerns intensified after the USS Omaha recorded a UFO in July 2019 that vanished into the ocean without a trace after buzzing a Navy fleet near San Diego. The Pentagon later verified the video, which showed the object descending into the sea at high speed. The footage displayed movements no known human technology could replicate, according to Gallaudet.
He noted that “pilots, credible observers and calibrated military instrumentation have recorded objects accelerating and crossing the air-sea interface in ways not possible for anything made by humans.” His 29-page report documented multiple similar cases reported by military and civilian observers across decades.
Ongoing Mystery Beneath the Waves
While scientists remain cautious about jumping to conclusions, the growing number of underwater UFO reports has reignited debate over what might be happening below the surface. Whether these sightings are advanced human technology, natural phenomena, or something else entirely, they have raised fresh questions about what lies hidden in Earth’s oceans — and whether the government knows more than it’s revealing.
