Sherri Moody, a 51 year old high school teacher from Deer Park, Texas, experienced a shocking medical emergency after what seemed like a common cold in April 2023. Within days, the illness developed into severe double pneumonia caused by strep bacteria, which led to septic shock. Her condition deteriorated so rapidly that doctors had to place her in a medically induced coma and use medication to save her vital organs, cutting off circulation to her arms and legs.
By June, Sherri underwent quadruple amputations. Her limbs had turned black and “mummified” as a result of the loss of blood flow. Despite this life-changing trauma, Sherri and her husband David, who now cares for her full-time, have chosen a path of resilience and optimism. “I just choose to be happy,” Sherri told Today.com, sharing that gratitude and daily blessings keep them going.
