A chilling prophecy from 16th-century astrologer Nostradamus has resurfaced as the Vatican confirms Pope Francis is in critical condition.
Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, allegedly foresaw the fate of the current Pope. He mentioned it in a passage from his book Les Propheties, first published in 1555.
The prophecy states that a “very old Pontiff” would pass away, leading to the election of a new pope.
“Through the death of a very old Pontiff… a Roman of good age will be elected. Of him it will be said that he weakens his see… but long will he sit and in biting activity.”

For centuries, Nostradamus’ writings have been open to interpretation. However, recent events have sparked renewed speculation about their accuracy.
The Vatican reported that Pope Francis suffered a severe respiratory crisis, requiring blood transfusions and oxygen support. The 87-year-old pontiff has gained attention for his frail health. He now has pneumonia in both lungs.
He was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14. The pope’s condition remains precarious, with doctors warning that complications such as sepsis could pose a serious threat.
Adding to the mystery, another prophecy linked to 12th-century Irish Saint Malachy has surfaced. His writings mention “the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church,” with a pope named Peter the Roman overseeing its decline.
The passage suggests that this pope’s reign would coincide with major tribulations and the destruction of Rome. Some believe that if Pope Francis is succeeded by someone taking the name Peter, it could mark a significant turning point in history.
Meanwhile, Pope Francis reportedly had a peaceful night after his latest health crisis. Despite ongoing concerns, he managed to send a message from his hospital bed, thanking supporters for their prayers.
Beyond the immediate concerns for Pope Francis’ health, Nostradamus’ other predictions for 2025 have also drawn attention.
He warned of “cruel wars” breaking out from England’s “flanks,” leading to internal and external conflicts. He also mentioned a “great pestilence from the past” making a return—something that has sparked speculation about another global health crisis.
Perhaps most concerning is his prediction that a prolonged war—possibly referencing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine—will exhaust military forces by 2025.
“Through long war all the army exhausted, so that they do not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they will come to coin leather, Gallic brass, and the crescent sign of the Moon.”
He wrote.
Some interpret this as a warning about economic collapse due to extended warfare.
The French astrologer also predicted a decline in Western influence and the rise of new world powers. He suggested that European nations, including France and England, would see increased instability and clashes. Adding to this, he hinted at a “fireball from the cosmos,” which some believe could be an asteroid impact.
Nostradamus also linked climate change to major disasters, referencing potential devastation in Brazil, home to the Amazon rainforest.
“Garden of the world near the new city, In the path of the hollow mountains: It will be seized and plunged into the Tub, forced to drink waters poisoned by sulphur.” He wrote.
Some believe this could point to a natural disaster affecting Brazil’s environment.
In one of his more bizarre claims, Nostradamus predicted that a “mysterious leader” would rise from the sea, forming an “aquatic empire.” While this has been dismissed as metaphorical, it remains a topic of debate among followers of his prophecies.
Alongside Nostradamus, another mystic, Baba Vanga, made several predictions for 2025. The late Bulgarian psychic reportedly foresaw Vladimir Putin’s continued rule in Russia, which aligns with his recent re-election. However, she also warned of a devastating war in Europe and a catastrophic natural disaster, including the eruption of dormant volcanoes.
Baba Vanga’s predictions include a massive earthquake along the U.S. West Coast. California has experienced strong tremors in the past, such as the 7.1 magnitude quake in 2019, though no fatalities were reported.
Like Nostradamus, she also predicted groundbreaking medical advances, particularly in lab-grown organs for transplants. Strangely, she also suggested that 2025 would mark the beginning of telepathic communication becoming a reality.
Perhaps her most intriguing claim is that humanity will make contact with extraterrestrial life during a major sporting event. While skeptics dismiss this, some find it fascinating, especially as technology continues to advance in space exploration.
Both Nostradamus and Baba Vanga’s predictions offer a mix of alarming and curious insights. These prophecies still remain a mystery. But with Pope Francis’ health in question, many are revisiting these ancient warnings with fresh eyes.
