Nabil Abdul Rashid is a Nigerian- descent English comedian. He made history in 2010 as the youngest black comedian to perform stand-up at the Hammersmith Apollo at the age of 25.

Nabi Abdul Biography and Early Life

On September 3, 1987, Abdul Rashid was born in North London, England. He was born to a medical doctor father and a politician, businesswoman mother.

He studied medicine in the Soviet Union throughout the 1940s and 1950s while the Soviets taught African doctors. Afghan woman became his first wife during the Russo-Afghan War. After that, his father relocated to England and started a hospital there. After returning to Nigeria, Abdul Rashid also met his mother.

Abdul Rashid and his family migrated to Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, in 1990, after returning to England. He had a private school education and travelled the world at an early age. Essence International School was where he went to school.

When he returned to the U.K. in 2006, he settled in the Surrey town of South Croydon. He also has a B.A. in Drama and Applied Theatre from St. Mary’s University College in Twickenham. It was awarded to Abdul Rashid in 2012.

Career

Abdul Rashid performed stand-up at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2010 at the age of 25. Then he also became the first black comedian to play at the venue. “Which Religion is Funniest?” was the topic of his entry into the “Which Religion is Funniest?” competition. And also, he was crowned joint winner of the national competition, which David Baddiel judged. He was selected to perform at The Infidel’s premiere in London.

Abdul Rashid has done stand-up comedy at the Comedy Store, Jongleurs, and Choice FM Comedy Club. Abdul Rashid worked on The Show Sho Show from 2009 to 2010, in which he wrote, starred in, and directed.

He has collaborated with the producers of Little Miss Jocelyn and also 3 Non-Blondes on a sketch program.

Don’t Panic, I’m Islamic! has travelled the world with Abdul Rashid’s religious comedy show.  He was part of the Peace Youth and Community Trust’s (PYCT) first Muslim Comedy Tour in July 2011. In May 2012, he spent two weeks teaching youngsters about HIV through theatre in Malawi.

Abdul Rashid and Ola Gbaja co-founded Norbury Comedy Club in January 2013. Sundays will see a show put on by the Baba Foundation restaurant.
