Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly injured in the same airstrike that killed his father, former leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The strike occurred on February 28 during the opening wave of attacks targeting Iran’s leadership in Tehran. The explosion hit the presidential complex where the elder Khamenei and several family members were gathered.
According to Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Mojtaba Khamenei suffered injuries to his legs, hands, and arms during the bombardment.
The ambassador said the new leader may currently be hospitalized, which could explain why he has not appeared publicly since taking power.
Strike Killed Several Family Members
The attack killed former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several members of his family, including his wife, daughter, son in law, and a young grandchild.
The strike happened during the holy month of Ramadan while the family was gathered at their residence near the presidential offices in Tehran.
According to reports, several senior Iranian commanders were also killed in the same attack.
