A Pennsylvania woman sorting through childhood keepsakes over Thanksgiving uncovered a connection that stunned her entire family.
Megan Lewis, 38, discovered that her childhood pen pal from the 1990s was the same doctor who later delivered both of her children.
The discovery came more than 30 years after the two last exchanged letters.
A Box of Letters Changed Everything
Lewis told ABC News she was visiting her parents’ home when she began looking through old papers from elementary school.
Inside the box were letters she had written to a pen pal while she was a second grader.
When Lewis searched the pen pal’s name online, she was shocked by what appeared.
The photo belonged to her OB-GYN.
“The very first letter had her first and last name, but it was her maiden name,” Lewis said.

The Doctor Who Delivered Her Children
Lewis has been a patient of Dr. Suzanne Pugh, an OB-GYN in the Philadelphia area, since 2018.
Pugh delivered both of Lewis’s children and supported her through difficult moments before and during pregnancy.
Lewis said Pugh made sure she personally handled both deliveries.
Over the years, Lewis shared photos and milestones of her children with Pugh, unaware of their shared history.
A Connection From the 1990s
The women later learned they were likely matched as pen pals through a school program.
Pugh was an 11th grader at West Chester East High School at the time.
Lewis was a second grader at Fern Hill Elementary School.
They exchanged letters from 1994 to 1995, writing about school, hobbies, and gymnastics.
In one letter, Pugh mentioned Lewis had visited her school, though neither remembers the moment.
A Reunion Decades Later
When Lewis reached out to Pugh after finding the letters, the doctor was stunned.
“I had no recollection of this,” Pugh told ABC News in an email. “She sent me photos of the letters and it was me.”
Pugh called the discovery a reminder of how small the world can be.
The two reunited earlier this month at Pugh’s home.

A Bond That Feels Meant to Be
Pugh said she feels amazed by the connection.
“Megan is such a special patient and person,” she said. “It’s incredible to think we were linked 30 years ago.”
Lewis said the discovery has turned their doctor patient relationship into a close friendship.
“If I told my 7-year-old self that my pen pal would one day deliver my children, I would never believe it,” Lewis said.
A Story That Struck a Chord
The story quickly spread online, with many calling it a sign of fate.
For Lewis and Pugh, it is a reminder that some connections are written long before people realize it.
What began as childhood letters ended with two births, decades later, under the care of a familiar hand.
