Kristen Bell’s Veronica Mars always had another question to ask.
For viewers wondering what happened to Kristen Bell, the answer includes a quieter stretch and another major television lead. After spending more time at home with her children, she returned to romantic comedy with Nobody Wants This.
As of November 4, 2026, its third season is streaming on Netflix. She is also returning as Anna in Frozen 3, which Disney currently schedules for November 24, 2027. Her best-known roles have grown across very different audiences, from teen mysteries to family musicals and adult comedies.
Veronica Mars built a following that brought her back
Bell became closely associated with Veronica Mars during its original 2004–2007 run. Her teenage detective was smart, suspicious and often several steps ahead of the adults around her.
The series’ first ending did not end that attachment. Fans helped finance a 2014 movie, and Bell returned again for Hulu’s 2019 revival.
Kickstarter’s account of the film campaign documents how creator Rob Thomas and the audience helped get that movie made. It was an unusually direct example of fans turning affection into another production.
Bell’s work during and after those years reached far beyond Neptune. She narrated Gossip Girl, appeared in Heroes and starred in The Good Place. Disney’s career profile also notes her earlier Broadway experience.
That theater background helps connect the actress from a detective drama to the singing voice familiar to millions of children.

Frozen changed how another generation knew her
In 2013, Bell voiced Anna in Disney’s Frozen. The role required both the humor and the singing that had been part of her work before television fame.
Anna’s search for her sister Elsa placed that voice at the center of a family adventure. Disney’s film page credits Bell opposite Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad.
She returned for Frozen 2 in 2019. That created an unusual split in recognition: some viewers knew her face immediately, while younger fans first knew her through an animated character.
Her live-action comedy work continued alongside it. She appeared in Bad Moms and starred with Melissa McCarthy in The Boss, whose cast is confirmed by Universal.
Those overlapping jobs are part of why Bell’s career cannot be neatly divided into one famous period followed by an absence.
The Good Place ended because its story reached the finish
The Good Place gave Bell another defining character, Eleanor Shellstrop. Its afterlife setting let creator Michael Schur build a comedy around friendship, mistakes and the difficult business of becoming better.
The series finished on January 30, 2020, after four seasons. It was a planned ending, rather than Bell suddenly leaving an ongoing show.
Entertainment Tonight’s reporting at the time explains the creative decision and the cast’s mixed feelings about saying goodbye.
“It’s where the story ends,” Bell said.
The distinction matters for anyone who lost track of her after Eleanor. A favorite weekly series stopping can make an actor feel absent, even when the reason is simply that the production has finished.
Her later credits included Netflix’s mystery parody The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. She did not move directly from Eleanor into another identical sitcom role.

Bell described wanting creative work again after more time at home
There was also a personal change in pace.
In 2024, People reported Bell’s explanation that she had spent the previous few years focused on being a full-time mother. She discussed returning to acting on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“I realized, I want to do it again. I want to feel that kind of electricity again,” she said.
That is her own account of the shift, rather than a guess about why she became less visible.
Nobody Wants This offered a new lead role when she was ready for that change. The series pairs her with Adam Brody in an adult romance created by Erin Foster.
Nobody Wants This has reached its third season
Bell plays Joanne, a podcaster who falls in love with Brody’s Noah, a rabbi. Their relationship brings differences in belief, family expectations and everyday habits into the comedy.
The third season arrived on Netflix in October 2026. Joanne and Noah are now navigating a shared home, while the people around them have their own changing relationships.
The series therefore moves beyond whether the couple will get together. It asks how they will live together.
Bell explained her interest in imperfect characters in an August 2026 Elle interview: “there’s nothing funny about perfection, and I would like to be funny.”
She also discussed returning as Anna and her new role as a L’Oréal Paris global ambassador. Those are current parts of her working life, alongside the television series.
Anna’s next chapter is still ahead
Disney lists Frozen 3 for November 24, 2027. That is an upcoming release, not a film already available to watch.
For now, Bell’s latest television chapter is Joanne’s continuing romance. The voice of Anna remains another thread running through her career.
The detective, the flawed woman in the afterlife and the podcaster are not interchangeable characters. What links them is Bell’s willingness to let a leading woman be funny, difficult and unsure of herself.
Her return after more time at home did not require bringing back an old show. It gave audiences someone new to follow.
