Eva Longoria’s Gabrielle Solis made Desperate Housewives’ Wisteria Lane a much more glamorous, unpredictable place.
Since the series ended in 2012, Longoria has expanded into directing, producing and presenting. In 2026, her work includes CNN’s Searching for France and the Netflix comedy The Fifth Wheel, which she directs and recently described as being in post-production.
She has continued acting, including the lead role in Land of Women. But following only her on-screen appearances misses a substantial part of her career: she now helps decide which stories get made, how they are filmed and who gets opportunities to tell them.
Wisteria Lane was also a place to learn
Desperate Housewives ran from 2004 to 2012, with Longoria playing former model Gabrielle alongside the other residents of a suburb where domestic routines concealed extraordinary secrets.
The role established her as a television star. It also gave her sustained access to a working set, something she later described as crucial to her development behind the camera.
“I used Desperate Housewives as my film school,” she told Radio Times in 2023. She credited the directors who worked on the series with helping her understand the craft.
That history makes her move into directing easier to understand. It developed through observation and experience over time, rather than beginning abruptly when her first feature arrived.
Her former co-star Felicity Huffman has also built a career beyond Desperate Housewives. For Longoria, the years after the series increasingly involved shaping productions as well as appearing in them.

Flamin’ Hot brought her feature directing debut
Longoria directed episodes of television series including Jane the Virgin, Black-ish and Why Women Kill before making her feature directing debut with Flamin’ Hot in 2023.
The film dramatizes Richard Montañez’s account of his rise from a Frito-Lay janitor. His claim to have invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos has been disputed, a distinction worth preserving when discussing the movie as biography.
In her Radio Times interview, Longoria explained that she approached the film through Montañez’s perspective and the obstacles he described. She also discussed reshaping the screenplay to give his relationship with his wife, Judy, a stronger place in the story.
The film premiered at South by Southwest and reached Hulu and Disney+ in June 2023. Town & Country’s profile connected that milestone to years spent studying directors on the Desperate Housewives set.
Her path has parallels with Elizabeth Banks’s expansion from acting into directing and producing. A familiar face on screen can also be the person organizing the performance, tone and rhythm behind it.
Land of Women kept her in a leading acting role
Longoria starred in and executive produced Land of Women, which premiered on Apple TV+ in June 2024. She played Gala, a comfortable New Yorker whose husband’s financial troubles upend her life.
According to Apple’s series description, Gala escapes to northern Spain with her mother, Julia, and teenage daughter, Kate. Carmen Maura and Victoria Bazúa play those family members.
Their attempt to stay unnoticed becomes difficult as gossip spreads through Julia’s hometown. The setup combines danger, family history and the adjustments required when three generations are thrown together.
It also gives Longoria a character facing circumstances very different from Gabrielle’s suburban life. Apple’s premiere announcement places her work as a performer and executive producer side by side.
The series is a useful reminder that moving behind the camera has not ended her interest in acting.
Her food-and-travel series reached France
Longoria’s presenting work has followed food across countries and communities. Searching for Mexico arrived in 2023, followed by Searching for Spain in 2025 and Searching for France in April 2026.
CNN’s announcement describes an eight-episode French journey through regional cooking, history and the people preserving or changing culinary traditions.
The itinerary includes Paris, Provence, Alsace, Burgundy, Brittany and Bordeaux. Rather than playing a fictional visitor, Longoria meets chefs, artisans and families as the audience’s guide.
The show also connects her presenting and producing responsibilities. Hyphenate Media Group, the company she co-founded with Cris Abrego, produces the series.
CNN subsequently announced a second French season for 2027. That is an upcoming installment, distinct from the first season already released.

Producing and community work broadened her responsibilities
Longoria co-founded Hyphenate Media Group with Abrego in 2023. A 2025 iHeartMedia announcement documented the company acquiring an equity interest in the My Cultura podcast network.
That development places her work beyond individual television roles. Building a media company involves supporting projects and partnerships that may not depend on her appearing in every episode.
Her foundation is another part of that broader activity. The Eva Longoria Foundation’s stated priorities include economic opportunity, civic participation and cultural influence for Latinas.
Its work also includes creating pathways into entertainment. That links her public advocacy with a practical concern familiar from her directing career: who can access the industry and progress within it.
The Fifth Wheel is her next announced feature as director
Longoria’s next feature directing project is The Fifth Wheel, an ensemble comedy starring Kim Kardashian. Netflix announced filming in January 2026, with Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster and Brenda Song also in the cast.
Written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito, the film centers on a group trip to Las Vegas that goes badly. Its comedy setting offers Longoria another chance to direct an ensemble.
In an interview published November 1, 2026, Longoria told People the film was in post-production. It should therefore be described as forthcoming, rather than as a movie already available to watch.
Her present career is visible across these different kinds of work: a released travel series, a recent television lead, a production company and another film taking shape. Gabrielle Solis remains a defining role, while Longoria’s responsibilities have grown far beyond Wisteria Lane.
