In a dramatic response to recent threats from the US, Venezuela has made a bold move by deploying warships to escort oil tankers leaving its shores. On December 17, under the protection of naval warships, several vessels left Venezuela carrying urea, petroleum coke, and other oil products destined primarily for Asia.
“Vessels linked to our operations continue to sail in complete safety,” stated PDVSA, Venezuela’s state oil company.
This action was met with sharp criticism toward the US from the Venezuelan government, which labeled Trump’s statements as reckless and a major escalation risk.
