On July 17, President Trump sent a heartfelt letter to Tamara Jachym, the mother of slain congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, expressing his devastation over the “senseless act of violence” that took her son away. “He will be held in my heart, and I promise never to forget or forgive the terrible act that took him from us,” Trump wrote.
Eric, just 21, was shot in Washington, D.C., on June 30 while serving as an intern for Rep. Ron Estes. The shooting left Eric dead and two others injured. Tragically, authorities state that Eric was not the intended target.

Tamara Jachym shared her pride over Eric’s resilience, highlighting how he overcame significant adversity, including severe dyslexia. “He had ambition because he had some adversity in his life,” she said, reflecting on her son’s journey from struggle to success.
