During a campaign style speech at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, President Donald Trump stirred controversy by hinting at the possibility of a third presidential term. Speaking to U.S. service members, Trump claimed he had won three elections and quipped, “I don’t know, I’ll have to think about that,” in response to calls for a 2028 run.
He referenced a supporter’s hat reading “Trump 2028,” adding, “We’re driving the left crazy with that hat.”
While Trump has previously joked about extending his time in office, constitutional experts stress that a third term is not legally possible. The 22nd Amendment clearly limits presidents to two elected terms, making any third-term bid unconstitutional.
