A Six Flags incident in Georgia left one person dead and four injured Monday, prompting an evacuation of Goliath.
Cobb County police said the incident occurred at approximately 3:58 p.m. on Oct. 12. Detectives from the department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating.
WSB-TV reported that officials confirmed one death and four injuries. Authorities have not publicly detailed how the incident happened or the conditions of those injured.
Witnesses Reported a Fall
Witnesses told local media they saw a man fall from the Goliath roller coaster, according to ABC News. Police had not confirmed those specific circumstances in the statements reviewed.
The ride stopped with passengers near its highest section, and crews evacuated them. The deceased person’s identity was not released in the reporting reviewed.
Six Flags Closes Similar Attractions
Six Flags said it temporarily closed similar attractions across its parks following the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” a company spokesperson said.
The company said it was supporting affected guests and employees and cooperating with investigators. It declined to provide further details out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Cause Remains Under Investigation
Goliath opened in 2006 and reaches heights of 200 feet and speeds of up to 70 mph, according to park information cited by ABC News.
Authorities have not announced a cause or established whether equipment malfunctioned. The precautionary closures do not, by themselves, establish a defect.
Cobb County Commission Chair Lisa Cupid said the deceased person’s next of kin had been notified. She expressed condolences and said further information would come from law enforcement as investigators confirmed it.
