A Guatemala teen reportedly regained consciousness inside a coffin after her family mistakenly believed she had died.
Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, 15, began moving during preparations for her wake in El Jocote, Sacapulas, on Saturday, Oct. 10, according to local reporting and interviews with her parents.
Crucially, no medical professional had confirmed her death. Her father said he never reached the hospital with her.
Father Describes Journey Toward Hospital
Abraham Ixcotoyac told local broadcaster TV SAC that his daughter became unwell and was unconscious when he began driving her toward medical care.
During the journey, he said, he could not detect her breathing or pulse and believed she had died. Instead of continuing to the hospital, he obtained a coffin and returned home.
Guatemalan newspaper Prensa Libre reported that the family presented no medical documentation establishing that Yuleidy had experienced clinical death.
Mother Noticed Movement
Yuleidy’s mother said she noticed her daughter moving inside the coffin while relatives and neighbors gathered at the family home.
According to the parents’ account, Yuleidy then regained consciousness and those present helped her out.
In a subsequent interview, the teenager described experiencing severe chest discomfort before blacking out. Her account did not establish what caused the episode.
No Confirmed Medical Explanation
Ecuavisa reported that no medical report explaining the incident was available.
Although relatives described what happened as a miracle, that is their personal interpretation. The available reporting supports an account of a teenager regaining consciousness after her family believed she was dead, not a medically verified return from death.
Her diagnosis and subsequent medical assessment remain unconfirmed in the sources reviewed.
