The highly-regarded PhoLove restaurant has been thrust into the spotlight after a viral video surfaced, allegedly displaying an employee harshly treating food. The footage depicts ribs being slammed onto grimy concrete, watched by thousands across social media. Owners, however, label this footage as ‘sabotage’ by a disgruntled former employee. “I’m concerned as the people, and I understand the outrage,” said owner Uyen Tran, committing to resolve the issue promptly with health officials.
Following the video’s release, Santa Clara County health inspectors conducted a thorough investigation. While inspecting, they found significant violations, including a cockroach infestation and improper sanitation methods. Such violations led to the restaurant’s temporary shutdown until they meet health standards.
“This was a deliberate act by a former employee and an accomplice,” asserts Tran, underlining the video does not reflect their restaurant’s norms.
The video incited extensive online backlash, prompting outbursts in reviews across platforms. Yelp, overwhelmed with responses, temporarily disabled reviews for PhoLove. Meanwhile, Milpitas Police, acknowledging the video, stated the matter remains under health department examination, given no criminal elements are present.
This incident plays into the larger discussion of online reputation and how businesses navigate crisis. Is it fair for online footage to potentially disrupt a business’s success without deeper investigation?
