An Omaha sinkhole opened without warning Tuesday afternoon, swallowing two vehicles stopped at a red light.
Security footage from the University of Nebraska Omaha Public Safety cameras captured the moment a maroon Jeep SUV and a silver Dodge Ram pickup dropped into the pavement at the intersection of 67th and Pacific Streets.
The dramatic video quickly spread online as residents questioned how such a collapse could happen in broad daylight.
What Happened at the Intersection
Police responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. local time, according to Omaha authorities.
Both drivers managed to climb out of their vehicles before emergency crews arrived. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The Metropolitan Utilities District said crews were investigating the collapse and urged residents to avoid the area while repairs begin.
“It will take time to determine the cause,” the utility said in a public statement.

Austin Rowser, Omaha’s City Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director, explained that pavement relies on stable soil beneath it.
