A new Trump approval poll reveals deep dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump just days before his State of the Union address.
The ABC News Washington Post Ipsos survey found that 60% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance. His overall approval rating stands at 39%.
The poll was conducted February 12 through 17 among 2,589 U.S. adults using Ipsos KnowledgePanel. It carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
Majorities Disapprove on Key Issues
Large majorities disapprove of Trump’s handling of inflation at 65%. Similar shares disapprove of tariffs at 64% and U.S. relations with other countries at 62%.
On immigration, 58% disapprove. On the economy overall, 57% disapprove.
The Supreme Court struck down Trump’s global tariffs on February 20, after the survey period ended. Details on federal trade authority are available through the U.S. Supreme Court.
Democrats Not Gaining Ground
Despite Trump’s low ratings, Americans do not express greater trust in Democrats in Congress.
When asked who they trust more to handle the nation’s main problems, 33% chose Trump and 31% chose Democrats. Another 31% said neither.
Last year, Trump led Democrats by seven points on that question. Now the margin has narrowed.
Concerns About Mental and Physical Health
The poll found that 56% of Americans say Trump lacks the mental sharpness to serve effectively as president.
Even more striking, 51% say he is not in good enough physical health to serve. That marks the highest level recorded in ABC News Washington Post Ipsos polling since 2023.
Seven in ten Americans say Trump is not honest and trustworthy. That matches a previous high recorded in January 2024.
Economic Anxiety Persists
Nearly half of Americans, 48%, say the economy has worsened since Trump became president in 2025.
Only 29% say it has improved. Just 22% report being better off financially than when he took office.

Divided Republican Base
The poll also shows a split inside the Republican Party.
Among Republicans and Republican leaning independents, 54% identify as supporters of the MAGA movement, while 42% do not.
MAGA Republicans overwhelmingly approve of Trump’s performance. Non MAGA Republicans show more mixed views, especially on inflation and foreign relations.
Opposition to Military Force and Vaccine Cuts
Most Americans oppose using the U.S. military to force changes in other countries by a margin of 54% to 20%.
A majority also oppose reducing recommended vaccines for children, a policy change overseen by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The numbers show a president facing broad skepticism on economic leadership and personal credibility.
At the same time, Democrats have not gained a clear advantage in public trust.
