In a surprising diplomatic development, the Kremlin said Thursday it will “immediately” begin preparing a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. The announcement came shortly after both leaders held what officials described as an “extremely frank and trustful” phone call, initiated by Moscow.
According to Putin’s top aide, Yuri Ushakov told journalists that representatives from both countries will soon start organizing the high-level meeting. “It has been agreed that representatives of the two countries will immediately start organizing the summit, which could be held, for instance, in Budapest,” Ushakov said.
In diplomacy, a “frank phone call” means that the conversation was open, direct, and honest — even if it included tough or sensitive topics.
