Kang Ha-neul is a 33-year-old South Korean actor who has been in the Korean Entertainment industry for 17 years. He couldn’t hold a fan meeting before leaving for the military, but the actor shared a picture of him on his Instagram with the caption, “I’ll be Back.” Fans were heartbroken by the announcement of his enlistment.
Kang Ha-neul served in the Military as required for 21 months from September 11, 2017, to May 23, 2019.

A press conference was held to welcome the actor after the military. “I really learned a lot, and it was a very happy time for me. Lots of things happened, and I studied a lot and read a lot of books. I think it was a really meaningful two years. Thank you so much to everyone who waited for me,” said the actor when asked about his experience in the Military.
After he returned from the Military, he announced his comeback to the entertainment industry with the KBS2 K-drama series ‘When the Camellia Blooms.’ Afterwards, he appeared in many popular K-dramas like ‘River where the moon rises’, ‘Insider’ and ‘curtain call’. He engaged in a few movies like ‘Waiting for rain’, ‘A year-end Medley’ and ‘The Pirates: The last royal treasure’.

Why should all men in South Korea serve in the Military?
Conscription, under the Constitution of South Korea, states that it is mandatory for all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 years to serve in the Military. The duration of the service differs according to the military branch they serve. Usually, Active soldiers serve for a period of 18 months, Navy soldiers for 20 months, and Air force soldiers for 21 months.
Male citizens between the above age range go through an ‘Impairment and Disability evaluation’ before enlisting in the “first citizen service” mandate.
The actor Kang Ha-neul also had to serve as required despite having some breakthrough moments as an artist in the entertainment industry.
