Jimmy Kimmel stunned fans by revealing he’s now an Italian citizen, a move sparked by dread over Donald Trump’s second term. Speaking on Sarah Silverman’s podcast, the late-night host admitted he’s ready to flee if things get worse. “I did get Italian citizenship,” he confirmed, adding, “It’s so much worse than you thought it would be.”
This comes after Kimmel first shared the news at an event for Italian Republic Day in June, crediting his grandmother Edith’s roots in Candida, Avellino.
“I have just obtained citizenship, thanks to my beloved grandmother Edith, whose family came from Candida, in the province of Avellino.”
Social media erupted, with comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who recently left the U.S. herself, tweeting support for Kimmel’s bold step, calling it “smart planning.”
