Innocent Masuku, the best opera singer in BGT 2024

Innocent Masuku, the perfect opera singer appeared on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) and achieved compliments as the best opera singer for 17 years.

“We have to have people who go beyond our expectations, and that’s exactly what you did today hands down in the 17 years. we’ve been doing Britain’s Got Talent, you are by far the best opera singer we have ever had” . A great compliment from Alicia.

Innocent seemed to be a cool smiling person and he entered the stage with a mouthful of smile and the belief in the luck of his outfit which his mother did. He astonished all four judges with his perfect opera singing and all judges appreciated his performance.

Background

Innocent Masuku is originally from South Africa and now he resides in London. He was 33 years old when he appeared on BGT 2024. He was born in Secunda, Mpumalanga on 13th May 1990.


This singer started his career with the Cape Town Opera Company. He first performed as Crabman in Porgy and Bess in Argentina. Since then, he has appeared in many big shows, such as Carmen at the London Coliseum.

Innocent has won several awards, including a Merit award in the 2019 SAMRO competition, a Drake Calleja trust award, and support from The Tillet Trust fund.

Audition

He participated in the Britain Got Talent season 17 episode 2 which aired on the 21st of April. 

Innocent Masuku made an unforgettable footprint in Britain Got Talent 2024 with his amazing and well-patient opera singing. He has chosen “Never Enough” from the musical Great Showman.

Anyone was not expecting that much power from his voice to come out and they have just found an ordinary guy turning into a diamond right in front of their eyes.

Judge's comment on Innocent Masuku's performance

His singing was effortless and it came from his soul. He added a smooth and natural color to the song “Never Enough” which made all four judges and the audience scream with happiness and goosebumps.

Although he deserves the golden buzzer for his spectacular performance, he was not served with it that day. But anyway, judges labeled his performance “divine” and “overwhelming” and all four judges hit “yes” for him.

Amanda Holden said that Innocent is the best opera singer they have ever had on the show in 17 years.

According to the opinion of Simon, Innocent Masuku’s performance was wonderful, powerful, and heartfelt and he showed his pleasure in his performance by saying “That’s about 4000 yeses “.  Bruno said that it was an incredible performance.

The judges all voted “yes” to send Innocent through to the next round of the competition.

And from the side of the audience, gave him an unstoppable applause at the end of his performance.

Controversy

Fans of Britain’s Got Talent are questioning the judges’ decisions. Amanda Holden praised Innocent Masuku as the best opera singer on the show.

This caused debates because some fans think past acts like Paul Potts and Susan Boyle were overlooked. Fans were also upset Masuku didn’t receive the Golden Buzzer.

They think he deserved it because of his strong performance. Other acts with more experience were rewarded instead.

Fans are asking if the judges’ choices were fair and want more transparency about the contestants’ backgrounds.
