Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that the Trump administration’s proposed changes to Regulation B under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act could roll back key protections against lending discrimination. Clinton, who spoke in a post on X, highlighted memories of a time when women needed a male co-signer for a credit card or mortgage—practices that were outlawed only in recent decades.
She argued that the current administration’s plan would end protections against such discrimination by revising how the ECOA is enforced, notably by eliminating the disparate impact liability standard which allows challenges to policies that disproportionately affect women and minorities even without explicit intent to discriminate. Clinton urged people to submit comments through the National Fair Housing Alliance’s public comment page to mobilize public input on the proposed changes.
