On Monday, December 15, 2025, a Fox News Special Report panel spoke from the studio setting about reactions to the Brentwood killings that left Rob Reiner and his wife Michele dead, and in which their son Nick Reiner was arrested in connection with the case. The violence occurred in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14, 2025.
Trump had posted remarks labeling Reiner as ‘deranged’ and suggesting the tragedy was connected to ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’
Panelists, including critics such as Howard Kurtz, Bret Baier, and Guy Benson, voiced near-unanimous condemnation of the remarks and urged decorum in political discourse, arguing that a family tragedy deserves respect.
Coverage noted that Reiner and his wife were murdered and that authorities had arrested their son Nick Reiner, with investigators continuing to pursue motives. The panel also noted how coverage across platforms raised questions about the line between critique and personal insult.
From the studio to social media, the discussion highlighted the ongoing tension between political speech and personal loss as investigators pursue the case.
While the investigation continues, the Fox News panel’s unified admonition underscored calls for civility and responsible rhetoric in times of national sorrow.
