In a sharp turn from his previously supportive stance, Elon Musk blasted President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and immigration bill on Tuesday. Musk, who recently stepped down as head of the U.S. DOGE Service a Trump-era cost-cutting initiative posted on X that the bill is “a disgusting abomination” and warned it would bury the U.S. in “crushingly unsustainable debt.”
The bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” narrowly passed the House after sparking backlash over its $2.4 trillion projected increase to the national debt over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The Senate is now debating the legislation, which Trump wants on his desk by July 4.
Musk’s criticism may sway conservative senators, some of whom have already expressed fiscal concerns. “Shame on those who voted for it,” Musk wrote. “You know you did wrong. You know it.”
The unexpected attack adds fresh uncertainty to the bill’s fate, as Trump allies scramble to secure enough support.
