Her passion first drew wider attention when Crayola brought Dandelion back in 2025 as part of a limited-edition retired colors release. That collection included other old favorites such as Blizzard Blue, Magic Mint, Mulberry, Orange Red, Violet Blue, Lemon Yellow, and Raw Umber.
Crayola said at the time that the release marked the first time in company history that it had brought back retired colors.
In a February 2026 TikTok video, Powell celebrated the news that Dandelion would return permanently to Crayola’s 64-count boxes. She told viewers the color was her favorite childhood crayon and said it was “back for good this time.”
The clip quickly spread online, drawing more than 1.4 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes. Viewers praised Powell’s loyalty to a single crayon color and treated the announcement as a rare win for a fan campaign.
Powell said she does not plan to stop collecting just because the color is returning. She told followers that Dandelion still brings her joy, and she wants to keep celebrating it.
Dandelion was introduced in 1990 and became a familiar shade for generations of children. Its warm yellow tone stood out from brighter yellows and deeper golds in the Crayola lineup.
When the color was retired, some fans treated it like the loss of a small piece of childhood. By 2025, Dandelion had developed a strong online following, with collectors buying old crayons and calling for its return.
