Wladimir Klitschko has broken his silence following Hayden Panettiere’s sudden death, making an emotional promise to their daughter.
The former heavyweight boxing champion said his family was experiencing profound shock and grief. Panettiere, known for starring in “Heroes” and “Nashville,” died on August 16, 2026, at age 36.
Klitschko and Panettiere share an 11-year-old daughter named Kaya. The actress and former boxer began dating in 2009 before separating in 2018.
Klitschko Promises to Protect Hayden’s Memory
In a statement shared on social media, Klitschko described Panettiere as an important part of his life despite their relationship ending years earlier.
“She left this world far too soon,” he wrote, according to People.
Klitschko praised Panettiere’s talent and successful acting career. He also acknowledged the personal difficulties she faced while working in a demanding entertainment industry.
His most emotional message focused on Kaya. Klitschko promised to speak about Panettiere with respect and help their daughter remember who her mother was.

First responders were called to a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, at approximately 1:51 p.m. on August 16. Panettiere was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.
Emergency workers attempted to resuscitate her. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.
An autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death. Police also said their preliminary investigation found no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
The official cause and manner of death remain undetermined. Although emergency dispatch audio reportedly mentioned a possible overdose, that description is not a final medical finding.
Authorities have not announced that an overdose caused Panettiere’s death. The public must wait for the coroner’s completed investigation before drawing conclusions.

Panettiere’s father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, confirmed her death through a family representative. He remembered his daughter as a force of nature who brought love and joy to people around her.
