President Donald Trump hailed assassinated ally Charlie Kirk as a ‘martyr for truth and freedom’ during a somber White House ceremony, handing the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Kirk’s tearful widow Erika.
Kirk, 31, was shot dead on a Utah college campus last month by Tyler Robinson, 22, who faces the death penalty. The killing sparked national grief among conservatives and prompted Trump to deploy National Guard troops to Democrat-run cities.
‘In the wake of Charlie’s assassination, our country must have absolutely no tolerance for this radical left violence, extremism and terror,’ Trump said.
Argentinian President Javier Milei and top conservative media figures attended, showing solidarity. Kirk’s widow thanked Trump for the honor on what would have been her husband’s 32nd birthday, saying he ‘would probably have run for president’ if alive.
