President Donald Trump announced Thursday that conservative activist Charlie Kirk will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, calling him “a giant of his generation.”
Trump made the statement during a memorial event at the Pentagon marking the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“Our prayers are with his wonderful wife, Erika, and his beautiful children; they are fantastic people,” Trump said, according to The Guardian. He described Kirk as an inspiration to millions and a champion of liberty.
