Donald Trump surprised viewers Tuesday when he linked ending the Russia-Ukraine war to his chances of getting into heaven.
Speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, the 79-year-old president said, “I want to try and get to heaven if possible. I hear I’m not doing well — I hear I’m really at the bottom of the totem pole! But if I can get to heaven this will be one of the reasons.”
Trump Ties Ukraine Peace to Faith
The comment came one day after Trump hosted the leaders of Ukraine and several European nations at the White House. He has repeatedly promised to end Russia’s war in Ukraine as part of his foreign policy goals and has even suggested it could earn him a Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump’s remarks highlight a shift in his public tone. Once known for combative political battles and scandals, including being the first president with a criminal conviction in a hush money case, Trump now frames himself in religious terms. At his January inauguration, he declared he had been “saved by God to make America great again.”
