President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, the founder of Binance who pleaded guilty in November 2023 to violating anti-money laundering laws. As part of a massive $4.3 billion settlement with the DOJ, Zhao stepped down as CEO and was sentenced to four months in jail in April 2024.
The saga began under the Biden administration’s aggressive stance on cryptocurrency, leading to Zhao’s prosecution and brief incarceration.
“President Trump exercised his constitutional authority by issuing a pardon for Mr. Zhao, who was prosecuted by the Biden Administration in their war on cryptocurrency,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
