President Donald Trump motorcade was rerouted Sunday evening after a suspicious object was discovered near Palm Beach International Airport, according to the White House.
The incident happened as Trump was leaving Mar a Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Florida. He departed around 6:20 pm for what is normally a short drive to the airport.
Instead of the usual route, the motorcade took a longer, circular path around the city. Law enforcement officers on motorcycles formed a moving blockade to secure the area.
Security Sweep Triggered Route Change
The White House said the object was found during routine security sweeps ahead of the presidents arrival at the airport.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that further investigation was warranted and the motorcade route was adjusted accordingly.
She did not describe the object or say where it was located. Officials also did not confirm whether it posed any real threat.
When reporters later asked Trump about the incident, he said he knew nothing about it.
Unusual Airport Conditions Raised Attention
Several unusual security measures were observed at the airport. Air Force One was parked on the opposite side of the tarmac from its typical location.
The exterior lights near the aircraft were turned off, a change from standard departure procedures.
During the motorcade movement, police motorcycles came very close to the accompanying vehicles. At one point, officers nearly collided with the vans traveling with Trump.

US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the rerouting was done purely as a precaution.
He explained that adjusting routes is standard protocol when any potential security concern arises. He added that these steps are taken out of an abundance of caution.
The Secret Service regularly conducts advance sweeps and changes plans when conditions require it, especially for presidential travel.
No Disruption to Travel Schedule
Despite the heightened security, Trump departed Florida without delay. There were no reported injuries, arrests, or confirmed threats connected to the incident.
Authorities have not released further details about the object or whether it was determined to be dangerous.
The White House and Secret Service emphasized that the situation was handled quickly and professionally.
