Taeyang is a 34-year-old Korean rapper, songwriter, and singer who has been in the Korean Entertainment industry for 17 Years in the industry. He held a fan meeting on the day of his enlistment. Fans were heartbroken by the announcement of his enlistment.
Taeyang served in the Military as required for 21 Months of service from March 2018 to November 2019.

A press conference was held to welcome the singer back from the military. “I still can’t believe I am discharged from the military. I think I had a meaningful time (there.) I want to thank my brothers in arms and the military officials who guided me during my 20-month service,” said Taeyang when asked about his experience at the military.
Shortly after his discharge, he announced signing a contract with “The black label,” a subsidiary of YG entertainment. In 2023, he collaborated with Jimin of BTS to do a song called “Vibe.”

Why should all men in South Korea serve in the Military?
Conscription, under the Constitution of South Korea, states that it is mandatory for all male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 years to serve in the Military. The duration of the service differs according to the military branch they serve. Usually, Active soldiers serve for a period of 18 months, Navy soldiers for 20 months, and Air force soldiers for 21 months.
Male citizens between the above age range go through an ‘Impairment and Disability evaluation’ before enlisting in the “first citizen service” mandate.
The singer Taeyang also had to serve as required despite having some breakthrough moments as an artist in the entertainment industry.
