In a surprising move, a stretch of road in South Florida may soon honor Donald Trump, stirring up local emotions. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners is set to vote on renaming a busy 4-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard to “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.” The road connects Palm Beach International Airport to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
Legislation signed into law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year has paved the way for this name change, mandating the Florida Department of Transportation to erect signage honoring Trump. In addition, part of the legislation would also name another section of the roadway “PBSO Motorman Highway” in memory of three deputies from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office who tragically lost their lives in a crash last year.
“The law requires local approval to take effect, and the resolution is set to be voted on soon.”
