Gomez’s Rare Impact Fund has already contributed $3 million in grants to twenty-four organizations around the world. Gomez’s friend, actress Francia Raisa praised Gomez for being “a brown woman that’s highlighting (mental health) and she has the platform that she has, I’m super proud.” Other A-Listers like her “Only Murders in the Building” costar Martin Short, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and Paul Rudd have contributed to the Rare Impact Fund Benefit auction.

Speaking of the benefit, Selena has said that it was “the culmination of a lifelong dream. But it also stemmed from some of the darkest moments in my life.” Speaking of her mental health struggles, she said at the event, “I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time and I felt lost and I felt hopeless at times. In 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and to be honest, everything quickly changed. I got the knowledge and the answers I had been desperate for so long, and understanding that makes me more aware of it, and I’m less afraid than I used to be.”

The singer is often very open with her fans and the media about her mental health struggles. It has inspired her to create her Rare Impact charity. The Rare Impact Fund works to reduce the stigma and taboos around mental health. It also expands access to mental health services, resources, and education for the youth.
