Presley Gerber shared reflections on recovery months before his death at 27, which his family confirmed Sunday.
The model, son of Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died September 20 at a rehabilitation facility, according to NBC Los Angeles, citing Los Angeles County medical examiner records.
A cause of death had not been announced in that report. His past statements about addiction do not establish what caused his death.
A Personal Account of Seeking Help
In a March Instagram post, Gerber described confronting difficult emotions while attending a wellness clinic in Cancun, Mexico.
He wrote about feeling frightened, struggling to surrender control and hoping to reconnect with himself.
“I faced what I had been running from,” he wrote in the post, before describing a sense that he was beginning to find his way back.
He also thanked the clinic’s team for its care. His message expressed hope for lasting change rather than certainty about what would come next.
Family Expressed Support
His parents and sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber, responded with messages of love and encouragement.
Kaia also discussed her brother’s experience in Vogue’s September cover interview. She described how addiction affected the family and said she admired his willingness to speak openly.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she told the magazine.
She also emphasized that keeping such experiences hidden can leave someone feeling that others are ashamed of them.
Family Requests Privacy
A representative confirmed Gerber’s death and asked for privacy on behalf of his parents and sister.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” the representative said.
With the cause of death still unannounced, there is no confirmed basis to connect it to the treatment Gerber described in March.
