Just days after a 3.0-magnitude quake rattled the region, a 2.7-magnitude tremor hit near Hillsdale, New Jersey, on Tuesday, shaking parts of NYC. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the quake struck over 7 miles beneath the surface around noon. Residents across the metro area reported feeling the ground move, with NYC Emergency Management monitoring for impacts.
This follows Saturday’s 3.0 quake in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, felt across all five boroughs.
“If you felt shaking, check for any shifted items, fallen debris, or cracks. No immediate protective action is required unless you notice damage,” the USGS advised.
Reactions poured in on social media, with one local influencer tweeting, “Two quakes in a week? NYC isn’t ready for this! Stay safe everyone.”
