In Washington, D.C. In remarks following a mass shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, a longtime gun-safety advocate, charged that President Donald Trump has waged a dizzying campaign to increase violence in the United States.
Murphy told CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union that the president’s rhetoric and policy choices since returning to the White House have made violence “more likely” in America. “
This is not shocking because over the last year President Trump has been engaged in a dizzying campaign to increase violence in this country,” Murphy said, adding that Trump has restored gun rights to felons, rolled back gun-safety measures, eliminated the White House Office of Gun Violence Protection, and halted funding for mental-health programs and community anti-violence grants that bipartisan majorities supported in 2022.
