Despite the violence, no children or staff members were injured during the incident.
Attack Targeted Michigan Synagogue
Ayman Muhammad Ghazali, 41, drove a vehicle into Temple Israel on Thursday after traveling about 38 miles from his home in Dearborn Heights.
According to investigators, the vehicle contained fireworks and gasoline containers. After crashing the car into the building, Ghazali exchanged gunfire with an armed security guard.
The confrontation ended when Ghazali died after becoming trapped in the burning vehicle.
Temple Israel officials later confirmed that all 140 children, teachers, and staff inside the building were safely evacuated.

Israeli Military Identifies Brother as Hezbollah Commander
The Israel Defense Forces said the suspect’s brother, Ibrahim Muhammad Ghazali, held a leadership role in Hezbollah’s Badr Unit.
This unit has been accused by Israel of launching hundreds of rockets toward Israeli civilian areas during the recent regional conflict.
Hezbollah is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and several other governments.

Family Losses Reported in Lebanon
Reports say several members of the Ghazali family were killed earlier this month in Lebanon.
According to local officials cited by the Associated Press, two brothers, a niece, and a nephew died in an Israeli airstrike on March 5 in the town of Mashgharah.
The strike reportedly occurred during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan while the family was gathered for the evening meal that ends the daily fast.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the deaths influenced the Michigan attack.
Suspect Became U.S. Citizen in 2016
Records from the Department of Homeland Security show that Ghazali entered the United States in 2011.
He received an immigrant visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen and later became a naturalized citizen in 2016.
Investigators are reviewing his background, travel history, and possible motivations for the attack.
Federal officials have not announced whether the case will be formally classified as terrorism.
Security Guards Credited With Preventing Mass Casualties
Officials say quick action by Temple Israel’s private security prevented a much larger tragedy.
U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin praised the security team during a news conference.
“If they had not done their jobs almost perfectly, we would be talking about an immense tragedy here with children gone,” Slotkin said.
The FBI and local law enforcement continue to investigate the incident.
Community Leaders Condemn the Violence
Religious leaders in the Detroit area have also spoken out against the attack.
Imam Hassan Qazwini of a Dearborn Heights mosque said he had only met Ghazali once but strongly condemned the violence.
“Islam forbids holding innocent people accountable for acts done by others,” Qazwini told the Associated Press.
He added that conflicts overseas should never lead to attacks on religious communities in the United States.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as federal agencies work to determine whether the suspect acted alone.
