They Took Their 3-Year-Old Son on Vacation. Days Later, a Family Was Gone.

A family trip to Great Wolf Lodge ended with the deaths of Charles Harrison and his 3-year-old son, Tristan. What investigators and grieving relatives have said.

The family photographs showed three people smiling together. A mother, a father and their little boy had traveled to a Pennsylvania resort built around family fun.

For relatives watching from home, the pictures suggested an ordinary vacation filled with memories a child might treasure.

Then came the call no family expects.

On October 12, 2026, Charles Harrison and his three-year-old son, Tristan, were found dead in their room at Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains. Charles's wife, Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide.

As investigators work to establish what happened, loved ones are left grieving a father and a child whose lives ended during what was supposed to be time together.

The Harrisons lived in Towanda, Pennsylvania. According to investigators, the family checked into Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun on September 21 and later extended their stay.

The resort is known for indoor water attractions and family activities. For three-year-old Tristan, it was the kind of place designed around childhood excitement.

Relatives later described the trip as a special experience for the little boy. Metallica's stepmother, April Thetga, told reporters that the family appeared happy in the days leading up to the tragedy.

Photos and a family video call gave no obvious indication to those watching that anything was wrong.

That memory has become part of the heartbreak: people who loved Charles and Tristan saw an apparently ordinary family moment, not a warning about what would follow.

The Call That Changed Everything

On Monday afternoon, October 12, police were sent to a room at Great Wolf Lodge after an emergency call.

According to a criminal complaint cited by ABC News, Metallica Harrison contacted emergency dispatchers and expressed a wish to die. She also told them her husband and son were already dead.

Officers arriving at the room found Charles and Tristan with fatal stab wounds.

Authorities say Metallica also had injuries and was taken for medical treatment. Investigators recovered knives from the room.

The complaint describes the allegations against her; the criminal charges have not been proved in court.

For everyone who knew the family, the discovery turned a vacation destination into the setting of an unimaginable loss.

Two Lives Behind the Headlines

Charles was more than the victim named in a police report. Family members remembered him as a devoted husband and father.

Thetga told the New York Post that Charles had been kind and caring toward his family.

And Tristan was only three.

At that age, a child's world can be filled with swimming pools, favorite toys and the comfort of familiar faces. The public may remember the circumstances of his death, but the people who loved him must live with the absence of everything he would have become.

Their names matter more than the shocking details of a criminal case.

Why Did the Family Stay So Long?

In interviews after the deaths, Thetga said that Metallica had used money from Charles's retirement account for the vacation, home improvements and other expenses.

The exact amount and whether the funds were withdrawn or borrowed against remain unclear. The statements are family accounts, not findings that explain the killings.

The family's trip had continued for several weeks, and investigators say the reservation was extended before the deaths.

For relatives, some decisions now appear unusual in hindsight. Yet an unusual spending choice is not proof of a motive.

Authorities have not publicly established why Charles and Tristan were killed.

Relatives Remember a Family That Seemed Happy

One of the most painful parts of this story is how recently the family had appeared together in cheerful photographs.

According to reporting by the New York Post, Thetga recalled a video conversation shortly before the deaths in which Metallica spoke affectionately to relatives.

The family members watching had no way of knowing what was coming.

The contrast between those moments and the police investigation has left loved ones struggling for answers.

It also underlines the limits of what outsiders can know from photographs. A smiling family picture captures a moment. It cannot explain everything happening in a household.

What Happens Next in the Case?

Metallica Rose Harrison faces two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the deaths of Charles and Tristan.

Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso described the incident as a domestic tragedy. Investigators have said there was no continuing danger to other resort guests.

As of October 15, 2026, the case remains in its early stages. The allegations must be tested through the legal process, and no motive has been conclusively established.

The resort has expressed sympathy for those affected and said it is cooperating with investigators.

Remembering Charles and Tristan

The case has generated headlines about an emergency call, retirement savings and a terrible discovery at a family resort.

But the deepest loss is simpler.

A father will not return home. A little boy will never grow older. Their family must now find a way to live with two empty places where loved ones once stood.

Whatever the investigation ultimately determines, Charles and Tristan Harrison deserve to be remembered as people, not just as names in a shocking headline.

This report reflects information publicly available on October 15, 2026. Charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proved guilty.
