During a late-evening video conference among European leaders, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that Russia’s readiness to end the war depends on Vladimir Putin, stressing that Moscow must demonstrate responsibility and openness to negotiations to stop hostilities.
The discussion, attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, followed Zelenskyy and Trump’s meeting at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. The leaders assessed the state of Ukraine peace talks and security guarantees, noting that some issues remain open but aiming to coordinate Western efforts in support of Ukraine.
Meloni urged unity and maximum coordination among partners to advance a just and lasting peace, saying, ‘It is up to Russia to show a sense of responsibility and openness to negotiations, demonstrating a real will to stop hostilities.’
