Frances Lopez says she faces a difficult recovery after attackers set her on fire at an Oildale encampment.
Lopez, 33, told 23ABC, Bakersfield’s ABC affiliate, that she suffered second- and third-degree burns across 32% of her body in the July 11 incident.
Lopez Describes Attack
She said three people confronted a friend she was visiting over money. According to Lopez, a man threw gasoline on them and blocked her escape before a woman ignited it.
Lopez escaped and reached a nearby trailer park for help.
Recovery Continues at Home
After four surgeries and nearly eight weeks in a Fresno hospital, Lopez returned home in September. She says relatives now help with daily wound care, while she continues traveling to Fresno for treatment.
Investigation Remains Open
The Kern County Fire Department confirmed to 23ABC that its investigation remains active but declined to discuss details.
Lopez said no arrests had been made and that she fears for her safety. She also said difficulty obtaining a report or case number has complicated efforts to access financial assistance.
