Victim found two days later
Authorities discovered Troy’s body on December 2 in Pace, Florida, about 17 miles north of Pensacola. A passerby called police after spotting what appeared to be human remains in a wooded area. Investigators located evidence at the site and began interviewing people close to the victim.
According to statements made at the briefing, detectives linked the case to two classmates, 14 year old Kimahri Blevins and 16 year old Gabriel Williams. Both teens now face first degree murder charges. Major news outlets including NBC News and Reuters have reported on the arrest details.
Police describe alleged motive
Sheriff Johnson said the three teenagers knew each other from school. Investigators believe the killing followed a falling out during Thanksgiving break. Police said Troy blocked one teen on social media and insulted the other online, which contributed to the alleged plan.
Johnson told reporters that witnesses reported hearing one suspect talk about harming the victim before the incident. Detectives believe one of the suspects took a handgun from a parent before the attack.
Arrests and emotional response
Both teens were taken into custody after interviews with investigators. Johnson said the evidence led detectives to them quickly. He expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and called the case one of the most troubling he has seen since taking office.
Officials also noted that the county has seen more homicides this year than usual. This case is the first youth on youth killing since Johnson became sheriff in 2016.
