Former Nickelodeon actor is back on the streets after being released from a psychiatric hold, despite plans to place him into a drug rehabilitation program.
Chase, 36, best known for playing Martin Qwerly on, had been placed on a 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold last week in Southern California.
Supporters say he was expected to be transferred directly to a detox facility. That transfer never happened.
Advocates Say Release Came Without Warning
Former child actor who has been helping coordinate care for Chase, told TMZ that the release caught everyone off guard.
“They were supposed to hold him and then transport him to a detox facility that we had arranged,” Weiss said. “Instead, they let him out without contacting any of us.”
Weiss has publicly shared his own history with addiction and said he has been trying to guide Chase toward long-term treatment.
Seen Using Drugs During Mental Health Evaluation
After Chase was released, Riverside resident Jacob Harris located him back on the streets and contacted a mental health crisis team.
According to Weiss, the crisis team again determined Chase was a danger to himself. During the evaluation, Chase was allegedly seen smoking meth.
Weiss said Chase had no shoes or jacket at the time, despite cold weather conditions. Even so, he was not taken back into custody.
The crisis team reportedly left him on the street.
Growing Concern Over Gaps in Care
Weiss said he has since reached out to leadership at the Screen Actors Guild, hoping to involve elected officials and Riverside County authorities.
He said he is unsure what steps remain but believes intervention is urgently needed.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about mental health response systems and continuity of care for people experiencing homelessness and addiction.
Struggles Became Public Earlier This Year
Chase’s situation first gained attention in September, when a TikTok video showed him living on the streets of Riverside and struggling with substance use.
The clip resurfaced earlier this month and drew widespread attention.
Actor who starred alongside Chase on the Nickelodeon series, located him and placed him in a hotel.
Lee shared the reunion on Instagram, writing that Chase was fed, safe, and one step closer to long-term treatment.
Hotel Stay Quickly Fell Apart
Hours later, Lee returned to social media to say Chase had trashed the hotel room.
Days after that, Chase was found by a reporter digging in the dirt behind a convenience store in Riverside.
According to reports, Chase declined food and instead asked for marijuana. He also claimed to receive several prescription medications from a psychiatrist.
Brief Hospitalization Followed by Release
On Dec. 22, Harris said Chase had finally been admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.
“We finally got Tylor the help he needed,” Harris said at the time.
But within days, Chase was once again back on the streets.
Harris later confirmed on Christmas Day that Chase had been admitted again to a hospital to detox from drugs.
Uncertain Path Forward
As of now, it remains unclear whether Chase is receiving ongoing care.
Advocates say they will continue pushing for sustained treatment and oversight, warning that short hospital holds without follow-up leave vulnerable individuals at serious risk.
For now, supporters say the former child star remains in danger as efforts to secure long-term help continue.
