Leonard first arrived in this arid landscape in 1984, aiming to launch a hot-air balloon that would proclaim his beliefs. When that dream didn’t take flight, he stayed and began the extraordinary journey of constructing Salvation Mountain from simple materials like mud, hay bales, and countless gallons of paint.
