Community Rallies for Guardsman Andrew Wolfe After DC Shooting Near White House

The name Andrew Wolfe is spreading across social media as people across the country send prayers and support. Wolfe was one of the two National Guard members shot in Washington DC on November 26 near the White House security zone. Authorities say the suspect, 29 year old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is in custody and the attack is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism.

Wolfe is in critical condition and undergoing surgery at a Washington area hospital. The shooting happened around 2:15 p.m. near 17th and I Streets NW, just blocks from the White House. The rapid police response sent parts of the downtown area into lockdown. The Metropolitan Police Department says updates will be posted on the city’s public safety site as the investigation continues.

Friends and fellow service members echoed her message. One friend wrote, “Please pray for my dear friend Andrew Wolfe. Keep fighting Buddy.” Another added, “Everyone keep Andrew in your prayers. He is one of the good ones.”

Military leaders are also responding. United States Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll said on social media that he visited the wounded guardsmen in the hospital. “My heart breaks for them, their families, and those impacted by the horrific attack,” he posted.
