A California community is mourning after a 49 year old father was killed during a violent road rage attack that happened in front of his wife and several of his young children. Officials identified the victim as Jason Elola, a father of nine and grandfather of four.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said the attack happened Saturday evening in Castro Valley after a minor car crash. Elola had just left a birthday party for one of his sons when a confrontation began between him and another driver. More information about the incident was shared by the Reuters news service.
Attack Unfolds in Front of Family
A witness told KRON4 that Elola’s wife, Gabrielle, and several children were in the car when the fight broke out. First responders said Elola had severe head injuries and was bleeding heavily when they arrived. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died.
The other driver ran from the scene at first, deputies said. Police identified the suspect as 37 year old Martin Davis Jr. of California. Officials said Davis later called the California Highway Patrol, returned to the scene, and was taken into custody. A statement from the sheriff’s office said the evidence points to a physical fight linked to road rage.
Suspect in Custody as Investigation Continues
Davis was booked into the Santa Rita Jail. Authorities have not yet announced the formal charges he will face. The sheriff’s office did not respond to requests for more details. State laws related to violent felonies can be reviewed at the California Attorney General’s website.
Community Mourns a Beloved Father
Elola was known for running a pumpkin patch and Christmas tree farm in Tracy. His family said he was the heart of their home and a man who brought joy to everyone around him. In a fundraiser post, they wrote that his loss has left a deep wound in the family and community.
His sister Wendy Hernandez said Elola was well known in Castro Valley, where he grew up. She added that he could greet people by their first and last name because he knew so many neighbors in the area.
A Family Forever Changed
Elola leaves behind his wife, Gabrielle, and their nine children. Their names are Maria, Angel, Jordan, Brenden, Liana, Josh, Aiden, Allisandra, and Aliyah. Loved ones said they are grieving a man who always put family first and gave them strength.
The investigation remains open as the community calls for justice and peace after a devastating act of violence.
