A Grand Central Parkway crash killed a 23-year-old Brooklyn College graduate, and police charged the driver with vehicular manslaughter.
Arianna Arregui was riding in the backseat of a Honda Accord when it overturned in Queens shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, according to police.
Emergency responders took her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she died.
Driver Arrested After Crash
Police identified the driver as Anthony Dickson, 34, of Brooklyn. Investigators said the westbound Honda struck a roadside barrier and a light pole before overturning.
Dickson faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs, according to NBC New York’s reporting, which cited the NYPD. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt.
Three other women were passengers in the car. Two reported no injuries, while a third suffered minor injuries, according to PIX11’s report, republished by AOL.
Returning From a Birthday Celebration
A surviving passenger told the New York Daily News that the group was returning home from a friend’s birthday party.
The woman, who identified herself as Dickson’s cousin, described Arregui as someone she had known throughout her life and considered family.
Arregui had recently graduated from Brooklyn College. Her father, Johnny Arregui, expressed disbelief over his daughter’s death in an interview with the Daily News.
Investigation Continues
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the crash, according to PIX11.
The reporting reviewed did not establish an arraignment outcome or identify the substance police allege impaired Dickson.
